Session Type: Symposium
This symposium presents a range of efforts using community-based research (CBR) to advance educational opportunities by creating more inclusive schools for historically marginalized youth such as students of color, students with disabilities, and dual language learners. The presenters highlight CBR as a critical tool in advancing these efforts by connecting research and practice by including local stakeholders. Resonating with the theme of the conference, this session looks to CBR as an opportunity to disrupt and replace “research to practice” narratives with CBR methods negotiated reflexively with local stakeholders. The range of scholarship presented in this session illustrate CBR with district leaders, teachers, community members, and youth as a promising means to advance systemic and sustainable educational opportunities in prek-12 schools.
