Session Summary

41.023 - Exploring Links Between Interest and Learning

Sat, April 29, 8:15 to 10:15am, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 217 D

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The goal for this interactive symposium is to identify links between interest and learning that could be used to inform a shared research agenda. Interest has been repeatedly shown to be beneficial to learning and malleable. However, better understanding of this relation is needed, if educators are to be able to optimize support for the development of interest and learning. Session presenters differ in their training and research questions, as well as the contexts and participant groups they study. Discussion will center on clarifying associations between interest and learning that are challenged by differences of research questions and measurements. Particular attention will be given to what is generalizable about interest and learning across contexts and diverse populations.
