Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) have produced an oversized proportion of the teachers of color in the United States. However, their contributions to teacher education extend far beyond racial demographics. Bringing together scholars, educators, and leaders, this symposium will address the strengths and challenges of MSI teacher education programs in the 21st century. Participants will give attention to the ways that programs build upon the needs of the surrounding community, infuse justice-oriented pedagogies into the curriculum, and confront the pressing challenges facing teacher education today.
