As racial minorities in the academy, teacher educator of color face innumerable trials as they work to challenge the status quo. In their attempts to develop an anti-racist teaching force, these teacher educators often become targets of racial aggression. For teacher educators of color, the content of their courses, critical nature of their scholarship, and their racial identities create dissonance for others in mainstream institutions. This symposium brings together teacher educators from a variety of backgrounds and institutions to share the challenges faced by teacher educators of color across various aspects of the professoriate. Presenters will address the consequences of their experiences on health, productivity, and advancement and discuss implications for future teaching, research, and university policy.
