Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
This session offers a critical overview of some of the current injustices faced by marginalized communities in the U.S. Panelists will explore how social movements like Black Lives Matter, the North Dakota Access Pipeline, and refugee communities’ resistance matter to scholarship in higher education. Specifically, the session will address how the term “ticket” (i.e. education) represents a symbol among marginalized communities to fight against injustices. The session will explore the relationship between scholarship and activism, particularly those strategies, within research and on the ground, that are being employed. The session will end with a discussion about how institutions and the people within engage with social movements.
