Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
A recent study suggests that women get less credit for their work in co- or multi-authored journal articles and are tenured at slower rates than men (Ginther & Khan, 2004). Women with children are also thirty-five percent less likely to achieve tenure-status than men with children (Mason, Wolfinger, & Goulden, 2013). Given these biases, this informal session will focus on how early-career scholars can work to change broad cultural stereotypes, combat gender imbalance, get the recognition they deserve, achieve professional and personal goals, and act as team players. This session will draw from the expertise of women who have excelled in their fields as they offer advice and candid reflection about their rise to success in academia.
