Session Type: Roundtable Session
In this round table session preservice science teacher education will be discussed from diverse perspectives. The range of papers include observations of pre-service science teacher strategies utilized to understand varied genres of science texts and how those observations can inform teacher education course development around science literacy; analysis of the progressive development of social justice teaching paradigms in the science classroom by teachers in an urban residency program; exploring preservice teacher self- efficacy through specific student engagement tasks as well as understanding the role of race in development of pedagogical understanding and navigating field experiences. This round table will spur discussion on how these various perspectives collectively address the evolution of pre-service teacher education and the implementation of various strategies to prepare effective science educators.
