The Mexico Center focuses on U.S-Mexico relations, including immigration and citizenship, transnational family issues, and art and culture. Directed by Dr. Harriet Romo, Professor of Sociology at University of Texas at San Antonio, the Center was established in 2005 to address and generate transnational dialogue and research on public policy issues that affect the people of Mexico and the United States with the goal of encouraging dialogue that translates into bilateral and cooperative policy recommendations. The Mexico Center serves as an umbrella organization that connects Mexico-related expertise within UTSA through cross-disciplinary collaboration on research projects and activities. With the ambition of becoming, a premier site for social science research and teaching on Mexico and U.S.-Mexico relations, the Mexico Center implements a series of year-round projects and programs. The Mexico Center aims to shift the emphasis in the discussion of key issues from political and unilateral to academic, analytical, and bilateral. To accomplish all of these objectives; the Mexico Center collaborates with several Mexican or Mexico-related organizations and institutions in both Mexico and the United States.
