Wonder is a term used often and casually, as in wondering about the weather or the stock market’s performance, or, even more frequently, used in the adjective “wonderful.” I am sure to utter the adjective daily, but with little or no reflection. Wonder comes from the Old English originally meaning an object of amazement or astonishment. My purpose here is to excavate some of the meanings of wonder and to advocate an ancient and renewed use of the term for a richer educational vocabulary and practice.
