Global Education Leadership Competencies: A Delphi Study of UNESCO Delegates and Administrators

Thu, April 27, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 2

Abstract

Globalization has increased the need for globally prepared leaders in all sectors, including education. The purpose of this study was to identify global education leadership competencies for preparing future global education leaders. A three round Delphi study in English, French, and Spanish was conducted with an expert panel of UNESCO delegates, national delegates with UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network, and senior-level UNESCO Education Sector Administrators. Consensus yielded 70 essential competencies and the findings revealed that for preparing leaders in global education, general leadership competencies still apply and global leadership competencies were valued more highly than domestic leadership competencies.
