Session Type: Symposium
This interactive symposium highlights lessons from a national study of seven teacher preparation programs that focus on preparing teachers to engage students in “deeper learning”—an increasingly important goal of education policy and practice. In addition to documenting the programs’ effectiveness, the study illuminates the specific structures, strategies, and supports that are most effective in learning to teach for deeper learning, and how programs focus explicitly on equity and inclusion in teaching for deeper learning. Symposium participants interested in teacher education research and program improvement will learn from promising programs that are creating and evolving the ways in which they prepare future teachers for 21st century student learning and consider implications for policy and practice.
