42.013 - Considering the Future of the NAEP Long-Term Trend Assessment Program

Sat, April 29, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, 304 A&B

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

The National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP, includes two national assessment programs—Long-Term Trend (LTT) NAEP and Main NAEP. The National Assessment Governing Board, which sets the schedule of assessments, postponed the next NAEP LTT until 2024 due to budgetary constraints. Some stakeholders have expressed concern with the gap of 12 years between assessment administrations. Other stakeholders argue that Main NAEP provides trend data back to the early 1990s so LTT should be eliminated. This 90-minute forum will host a lively debate among renowned scholars and assessment experts on the relative merits of NAEP LTT and explore ways of consolidating or combining Long-Term Trend and Main NAEP.
