Abstract

The first paper tracks the beginnings and development of approaches to ethnography in qualitative inquiry. The development of ethnography is sketched from a kind of “natural history” of exhaustive descriptions of the lifeways of “natives” to the interpretive turn and postmodern critiques of objectivism.
