Linking Faculty Knowledge and Skills to Candidate Performance: Applying "Levels of Use" to edTPA Implementation

Fri, April 28, 8:15 to 9:45am, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 3

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the depth at which faculty incorporated edTPA elements in their curriculum and candidate outcomes. Multiple cases of individual faculty who participated in the larger institutional case study will be used to examine how all the programmatic and curricular changes and initiatives during the process of implementing the edTPA impacted candidate outcomes. Semi-structured interviews will allow us to determine participants’ Levels of Use of five key edTPA elements, interpretation of edTPA data, and sense of ownership of candidate performance. We hypothesize that interviews will identify situational leaders among the faculty who can serve as local edTPA experts and help those who seem to be “stuck” at mechanical or routine levels.
