Academic service-learning courses can provide opportunities to create mutually beneficial partnerships between universities, cities, and communities, which allow capacity building for communities and opportunities for students to learn about and actively engage with the issues that face the communities they live in. This case study examined how students in one such program understood the connection between their college education, the city government, and the resources and needs of a specific community within their city.
