This semester-long teacher research project in an LGBT Literature course took place at a queer-friendly high school in a mid-sized Midwestern city. The authors designed, taught, and studied the course. This paper focuses on high school juniors and seniors as they engaged in conversations and created collaborative texts to interrogate heterosexual hegemony. It examines writing a review of a trans-themed non-fiction book, talking with the author of a young adult novel in which the narrator and love interest are not gender-identifiable, and creating a video arguing for reading LGBT-themed texts in schools. Thus, this paper works to examine teaching and learning practices that provoke social change, with attention to sexual and gender diversity across a range of intersecting identities.
