Sun, April 30, 8:15 to 9:45am, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

Since its 2010 inception, more than one million students from at least 60 countries have reportedly participated in the Global Read Aloud (GRA), an annual project that connects classrooms in the discussion of common books. This paper is based on data from the first research conducted on the GRA. Survey data were gathered from 516 educators who participated in the 2015 GRA. Teachers and students alike used a variety of synchronous and asynchronous technologies during the GRA. Respondents indicated technology played important roles in supporting both the teaching and learning that occurred through the GRA. Technology expanded with whom teachers could collaborate in designing GRA curriculum and instruction, and broadened with whom students could read and discuss literature.
