Administrator Perspectives on Digital Portfolios for Art Teacher Candidates

Fri, April 28, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

As teacher educators, we have found a need to build a bridge between pre-service education and the K-12 context by way of how we are preparing teacher education students to be professionals in their field. This study explores administrator preferences and perspectives of art teacher candidate portfolios and seeks to create a digital portfolio model that addresses the needs of pre-service teachers as well as hiring administrators spending countless hours looking for the right candidate. An important outcome of this work is not only a portfolio model, but guidance toward a teacher education curriculum that enables students to use relevant technology, engage in critical reflection, and create quality portfolios that consider multiple stakeholders.
