This paper analyses school choice motives of private and public school parents in Germany. In the context of the international debate on school sponsorship and school quality, the focus will be on the parental perception of school quality as one decisive criteria influencing school choice processes.
Therefore, quantitative data of first-formers’ parents being collected before and after the childs’ school enrolment will be analysed in order to work out if private and public school parents differ concerning their perceptions of school quality and how this may influence segregation processes.
