Mobile Application Learning and Student Athlete Identity Development

Sat, April 29, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

Emerging adults are engaged in a variety of developmental tasks such as identity formation, becoming personally competent, developing interpersonal relationships, and planning for the future. Playing a sport adds an unexpectedly complex layer to these stage-related tasks (Heird & Steinfeldt, 2013). This study proposed using ReadyAthletes, a mobile application, to promote healthy identity development in collegiate student athletes. ReadyAthletes allowed student athletes to instantly and conveniently access guidance on a variety of topics related to healthy identity development, and allowed the researchers to measure changes in the identity development of student athletes using the application.
