This phenomenological research study contributes to the newly formed line of inquiry in emerging research that explores the unique experiences of AfroLatinx students in higher education. The practice of aggregating Latinxs into a homogenous group within academic research has led to the oversight of intragroup diversity. This study highlights AfroLatinx students’ resilience, tenacity, and empowerment through self-identification and self-search. Their personal narratives underscore how they overcome colorism and intragroup rejection while constantly border crossing. Colorism and borderlands serve as theoretical frameworks in order to help us conceptualize what it means to be an AfroLatinx student on campus.
