Abstract

In this paper, we examine the cross-sector collaborations that were formed to address chronic absenteeism in Austin, TX, Iowa City, IA, and Pittsburgh, PA. Specifically, we examine how cross-sector collaborations are facilitated to reduce the impact of chronic absenteeism in local schools. We highlight the key actors that help to facilitate resources within these collaborations, and how school leaders are influenced by city cross-sector collaborations. We begin with a brief discussion of cross-sector collaborations, as well as examples of these collaborations in other policy dimensions. Then, we discuss our methods that examined the specific dimensions and aims of the cross-sector collaborations. We conclude by discussing the theoretical and policy implications of our findings.
