Mon, May 1, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 2

Abstract

There is an interaction between perception and movement. Teaching motor skills has typically included breaking down specific skills and modeling these skills to students. Verbal cues typically correspond to specific skills such as “hands and arms work in unison with your shoulders” or “accelerating the finger patterns when executing scales”. This is especially true for novice performers. The purpose of this study is to conduct a meta-analysis on the effect of attentional focus on motor performance in instrumental playing. Instrumentalists brain functioning process auditory, visual, and motor learning, but adaptional processes in somatosensory processing is currently under researched.
