Practitioners' Issues in Single-Gendered Education

Abstract

This study attempted to unravel the perplexities of single-gender education with a focus on all boys’ public schools in the United States by designing and then redesigning a survey instrument based on a critical race theory lens. The research study included an analysis of written statements paired with one-on-one interviews at the school sites with administrators and teachers in these schools. These data provided a foundation stone that may answer thought-provoking questions leading to an insightful understanding of the academic and personal successes of boys in public schools. Another intent of this study was to share the complexities of single-gender education, which helps provide an understanding of the intricacies of this topic.
