Market Influences in Classrooms: Hidden in Plain Sight

Fri, April 28, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

This study employs educational connoisseurship and criticism to study the effects of venture philanthropy on the ecology of a third grade classroom in a rural school in the Midwest. We consider educational equity with regard to how tasks influence modes of thinking and how the forms of representation employed influence the construction of meaning. This paper details the first part of an ongoing study where overarching themes of doing things "correctly" and "getting it right" have emerged.
