The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between teachers’ educational orientations and their purposes of using they utilize when integrating the history of science (HOS) in their instruction. 9 high school science teachers comprised the sample for this investigation. This study was based on the national project which aims to promote the use of the HOS in secondary school science lessons. Data were collected during and after three-year project through semi-structured interviews, reflective diaries and instructional plans. Analysis revealed that the way science teachers use the HOS differs in accordance with their science orientation. Teachers’ understanding of nature of scientific knowledge has an important effect in integrating the HOS in their instruction.
