In collaborative action research, two communities with different aims and demands met; scientific community and practice community. Collaborative action research, has been found to be powerful mode of educators’ professional development and a mean to improve the quality of teacher education. The paper aims to address advantages and challenges faced in one preschool during a collaborative action research project. The findings show advantages for professional development, improvement of practice and children’s learning and well-being. The main challenges faced were: how to find time for the project, uncertainty concerning the process, and how to influence the whole preschool. Collaboration with the external researcher and colleagues was crucial factor in making the project successful.
