The purpose of this study was to critically analyze the ways in which youth interact with media and how the images and lifestyles that are portrayed on reality television may be affecting the manner in which youth view both themselves and others. Because adolescence is a time of self-discovery and identity formation, there is much to be discovered in terms of how the viewing of reality television may be playing a role in this process. When viewing this cultural phenomenon through the lens of liquid modernity, an additional layer to examine emerges.
