This paper engages with video images that were produced during a research project in an urban public school in Canada. Drawing on Sylvia Wynter’s (1992) critical engagement with aesthetics, I engage in a ‘deciphering practice’ that encourages a rethinking of the image and what it means to be human. I will be working with video images as data/documentation. I will also be working with images as aesthetic texts that are composed of the more-than-human. In doing so, I critically engage with aesthetics and the ontological turn in educational research.
