Tue, April 17, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Sheraton New York Times Square, Floor: Second Floor, Metropolitan West Room

Abstract

This paper focused on how the new teacher evaluation system in the New York City Department of Education influenced teachers’ professional learning within a special education school. Video was used as a professional learning tool to gather specific evidence in conjunction with the Danielson Framework for Teaching to support a teacher of students with disabilities. A major finding in the study points to knowledge gaps amongst school leaders who work with teachers of students with disabilities and who apply the framework. A recommendation as s result is a need for identifying possible examples specific to special education classrooms to guide teacher evaluations and support effective feedback.
