Abstract

In our research we show the predictive power of initial characteristics of participants and parameters of course on the chance to complete Massive open online course (MOOC) successfully (i.e. to get a Certificate of Attendance). We used survey data about participants of 20 online courses, launched in 2014-2015 on Coursera platform by National Research University Higher School of Economics. Multilevel regression was applied to estimate the impact of individual and contextual factors on the chance to reach the end of the course successfully. We found out that individual and contextual factors significantly determine successful completion of MOOC. They can predict the chance to get a Certificate of Attendance with a probability of 75%.
