This study examined family engagement outcomes in a school-based early childhood program with an educational component for parents, and program elements that contributed to those outcomes. Analysis of program site focus groups and survey data (n=67 parents) revealed that learning and peer connection outcomes were intertwined. Parents reported emotional and cognitive benefit from staff-facilitated discussion and observation in a nonjudgmental community atmosphere. Program peers and staff were viewed as supportive resources similar to family and friends. Results suggest that public school engagement efforts with a strong learning and support enriches and supports family well-being and can promote child development
