Holistic Education: A Comparative Exploration of Eastern and Western Perspectives

Tue, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Westside Ballroom Salon 3

Abstract

This paper presents a nuanced perspective on holistic education relating to the Eastern and Western philosophies and others and affirms that the holistic education is as old as human civilization itself. The concept of holistic education might have got recognition and acceptance as an alternative form of education in the mid-1980s in the north America as many have argued, but the concept is not unknown in the western world as it has been forwarded by many renowned scholars and philosophers, such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Rousseau, Pestalozzi, Froebel, Montessori, and others through ages. It also asserts that holistic education is the main and only known form of education in the ancient times in Hinduism, and in India.
