The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between parent empowerment and postsecondary education enrollment in a nationally representative cohort of high school students drawn from High School Longitudinal Study of 2009. Using multinomial logistic regression, the study examined how socioeconomic background and race/ethnicity vary in the relationship between parent empowerment and postsecondary enrollment. This study provided a general snapshot on the roles of parent empowerment in college outcomes and within ethnic/racial and socio-economic variation. The findings showed which aspects of parent empowerment were salient among different racial/ethnic and socioeconomic groups. The empirical information suggests counselors need to develop strategies to involve parents into college process for increasing college outcomes.
