Teachers Supporting Teachers in Learning to Teach

Abstract

This paper describes the process by which 78 new teachers and 17 experienced teachers met at three “Saturday Seminars” arranged by faculty from four institutions of higher education and a school district administrator. Participants met in small groups lead by an experienced teacher, to participate in teacher led dialogues on professional practices, to set up communication networks, and to exchange video recordings of teaching practices for feedback from peers. Results from online surveys, participant comments and video analysis are presented as evidence of the ways teachers can help one another in developing best teaching practices.
