This phenomenological case study explores one Black mother and her sense of belonging in doctoral studies at a PWI in the Midwest. Authors draw from sense of belonging and triple consciousness to frame this study. Findings suggest that Assata’s belonging needs were shaped by her race, marital status, respectability politics of faculty and peers.
