Session Type: Symposium
In this session, the presenters share findings from critical autobiographical inquiries and narrative studies that focus on the perspectives of Latinas and the role of education in their lives. Using critical perspectives the presenters focus on how schools through their curricula and/or policies erase and support the perspectives, languages, and experiences of Latina students and families stifling or mediating their agency and possibilities for success. Collectively, the presentations in this session contribute to theorize erasure and resilience as related to the education of minoritized students. By understanding the ways that education supports and hinders the learning, dreams and hopes of Latina students, from their own perspectives, the research community may offer creative solutions for developing education based on social justice.
