Session Type: Roundtable Session
As the neoliberal assault on public institutions has morphed into a trajectory towards authoritarianism that threatens human life and the health of our planet, it is easy to fall into a paralytic despair. For critical educators, mainitaining a dream for a better future via education is critical for sustaining commitments to social change. This session features critical scholars working in schools and universities who struggle within a tension of dystopia-utopia as daily praxis. Presenters share experiences with and analyses of public higher education, k-12 administration, PAR collaboratives, teacher education, social and cultural theorizing, and urban science education. They raise questions about how to cultivate hope and provide tools for sustaining utopian dreams amidst dystopian reality.
