Session Summary

Structured Poster Session: Understanding Future Learning Spaces Across Multiple Architectures

Mon, April 16, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Millennium Broadway New York Times Square, Floor: Seventh Floor, Room 7.04

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

There has been a growing call for learning environments to move beyond traditional models of “classrooms containers” (Leander, Phillips, & Taylor, 2010) towards environments more oriented as Future Learning Spaces (FLSs: Hod et al., 2016) that embrace the practices and skills of the 21st century (Collins & Halverson, 2009). In this interactive poster session, we discuss a broad spectrum of research projects that embrace the tenets of FLS across two key factors: those which reconceptualize the formal classroom as FLSs by integrating cutting-edge pedagogies, technologies, and architectures; and those which seek to bridge the school-society divide through FLS designs. Presenters and attendees will collectively and collaboratively discuss the pedagogical, technological, and curricular implications of FLSs for teaching and learning.
