Session Summary

Learning to Argue From Evidence

Tue, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Millennium Broadway New York Times Square, Floor: Sixth Floor, Room 6.01

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Engagement in argument from evidence is one of the fundamental objectives of science education according to the Next Generation Science Standards. Different research groups around the world examine the development of learning to argue from evidence and how it can be promoted instructionally. The motivation for this symposium is to provide insights into the development of arguing from evidence from researchers around the world. Examining how students reason with and about evidence and the possible role of factors and instructional conditions that support the ability to construct evidence-based arguments will advance our thinking in the field regarding how this skill develops and how we can promote this development through the design and implementation of intervention programs.
