Session Type: Symposium
Computer science is a crucial driver of innovation and productivity in today’s technology-rich society (NRC, 2012). Yet, computer science currently plays only a minor role in high school curricula (NRC, 2007; Wilson, et. al, 2010) and “rigorous computer science is taught in too few schools by too few certified teachers” (Cuny, 2011). Increasing the role, availability, and recognition of computer science is an urgent need of national importance (Cuny, 2012). This session will discuss the multi-faceted landscape of preparing teachers to teach computer science.
