Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
As the climate in schools have recently been harmed by policy shifts and public rhetoric harmful to many communities, this panel is interested in exploring the ways we define allyship in education. The invited panelists will each discuss the following questions and prepare some of their own to present to the other panelists. Panelists offer perspectives working with immigrant communities, African-American and Latinx communities, as well as queer, transgender and non-binary youth. We will start by exploring: What does it mean to you to be an educator- ally? How does being an ally shape your work with teachers and teacher educators? Has that changed over time? How? Why?
