Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
Mid-career faculty are often referred to with words like “chronic,” “malaise,” and “stuck.” Such perspectives fail to consider generative views. The purpose of this workshop is to use research-based approaches to support the career development of mid-career faculty in AERA Division J. In this session, participants will engage in clarifying work to chart their own careers using the expertise of faculty who engage in research about mid-career faculty and who themselves have been or are in the mid-career stage. Participants will engage in hands-on professional development to identify strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats while thinking about support and resources needed to advance based on their career goals. Presenters will facilitate a career mapping exercise and engage in identifying mentors.
