Session Summary

Organizational Influence of Teacher Leadership: Perspectives From Four Countries

Mon, April 16, 8:15 to 9:45am, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Second Floor, Gramercy Room East

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

Studies of teacher leadership have largely investigated the roles, skills, and responsibilities of teacher leaders. While teacher leadership is most often examined at the teacher level of analysis, thereby drawing conclusions that speak to those teachers who take on leadership roles, the wider lens of how teacher leadership is impacted by context is scant. Moreover, the literature rarely touches upon the perspective of organizational benefits which, if found to improve schools, might offer support to teacher leadership. Papers in this session highlight the work of researchers from four countries as they examined the influence of teacher leadership from the lens of country context, highlighting teacher leadership as part of preservice training, teacher collective efficacy and trust, evaluation, and development.
