Learning to Do Self-Study: An Inquiry Into the Experiences of Faculty Participants in a Self-Study Learning Group

Sun, April 15, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Westin New York at Times Square, Floor: Fourth Floor, Imperial Room

Abstract

This collaborative self-study explores the learning of eight faculty participants in a self-study learning group over a three year period. All of the participants/authors are members of the same teacher education department of a school of education in the United States, who voluntarily participated in this semi-structured professional development initiative facilitated by a self-study practitioner from within the department. Findings are presented according to four categories as they relate to our collective learning: (a) who we are as teacher educators and educational researchers, (b) what we wanted from our participation in the self-study group, (c) what we now understand about self-study methodology, and (d) on the usefulness of the group in relation to facilitating such understandings.
