Building institutional capacity for effective change often entails implementing diversity agendas within decentralized, loosely-coupled, and change-resistant institutions such as colleges and universities (Simsek & Louis, 1994). Higher education scholars have consistently identified the leadership on college campuses as among the chief contributing factors to successful institutional change, especially as it relates to diversification and effectively serving males of color (Aguirre Jr. & Martinez, 2007; Chun & Evans, 2009; Williams, 2013). As such, this qualitative study presents findings from an examination focusing on the creation and implementation of a collaborative success strategy designed for males of color at a State University (Midwest). This study sheds light on the significance of strategic collaboration to create and enhance institutional capacity for effective change.
