This study offers a sociocultural investigation into the extent to which recent policy shifts in Brazil seeking to promote greater ethno-cultural diversity are being enacted in K-12 contexts. As part of this focus, the researchers examined the degree to which Brazilian educators felt that responses to diversity within provincial jurisdiction of education in Canada –– including initiatives that have yet to be introduced in Brazil –– could inform Brazilian educational policy. Findings from focus group data suggested that recent curricular initiatives in Brazil have yet to take hold on a systematic level, and primarily occur at the level of the individual where a variety of institutional constraints make this work difficult to carry out.
