Only until recently scholars have acknowledged the need for additional research on the impact of multiple identities influencing Asian American youth. The study develops qualitative surveys reflecting critical race theory and Asian Crit Theory to examine the ways in which youth are influenced by their ethnic minority identity and cultural backgrounds during adolescence and early adulthood. Rather than focus on the consequences of racial stratification and social injustice, our goal is to find what factors contribute to positive outcomes. We hypothesize that Asian American youth who value their culture will find ways to thrive in their own personal agency. We also hypothesize that through the societal challenges youth may discover racial realism that leads to action and change.
