This IHE has spent over two decades evaluating our teacher candidates through coursework, performance-based assessments, classroom observations, standardized tests, and self-evaluations; however, we have never asked the public school students these candidates serve to provide feedback on their effectiveness as beginning teachers. A teacher candidate may perceive himself/herself as effective and well prepared, whereas student perceptions could tell a different story. Examination of student perceptions is a critical component in the continued improvement of PDS partnerships, helping to inform both the partner school, and the IHE of areas in need of improvement in supporting the success of teacher candidates.
