While much research has focused on teachers’ development of cultural competencies and culturally responsive practices (CRP) within classrooms, teacher leadership research in CRP is just emerging. Therefore, the primary purpose of this action research project was to explore culturally relevant teacher leadership by examining the opportunities and challenges for teacher leaders in influencing collective action that promotes equity in their schools and communities. This action research project examined six teacher leaders as they (a) focused on students who do not typically experience academic success, (b) analyzed their own cultural competencies and sources of bias, and (c) created action strategies for working with others to effect change.
